Background on Congress' failure to act to preserve Medicare
On Thursday June 26, 2008 the Senate voted to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed on HR. 6331 but it failed, falling one vote short of the 60 votes needed. Congress adjourned for its one-week July 4th recess without fixing the scheduled 10.6 percent cut in the Medicare payments to Physicians. This cut means more financial burden on seniors.

The Medicare Justice Coalition is a unique multi-state collaboration of consumers, consumer organizations, health care providers, and payers who working to provide for an equitable Medicare program that provides beneficiaries equal benefits throughout the country and rewards providers for quality and cost effective health care.
