A Message from the Committee Chair
As Americans we pay 81% more for brand name prescription drugs than seven of the other leading industrialized countries1. The cost of prescription drugs affects all Americans, not just seniors, because it is one of the major cost drivers in medical inflation. The Minnesota Senior Federation has made the control of prescription drug costs one our highest priorities since our inception over thirty years ago. We have worked locally, statewide and nationally during that time. |
Campaign for Affordable Prescription Drugs - Overview
The Minnesota Senior Federation is leading a national Campaign for Affordable Prescription Drugs. It is composed of non-profit Senior Citizen Consumer Organizations and allies from Main to California. |
Key 2005 Congressional Importation Legislation
Key Prescription Drug Importation Legislation has been introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate. Both bills currently are at the center of the 2005-2006 Congressional debate on prescription drug costs. This legislation is actively supported by the Campaign for Affordable Prescription Drugs. The Senior Federation’s supported bills allow for: Importation of prescription drugs by U.S. pharmacies, wholesalers, and individuals from over twenty countries and Sgnificantly increases the safety of this country’s prescription drug supply.
The House legislation has over 100 co-sponsors and the Senate bill has been heard in Committee and is now poised to acted upon by the full Senate. |
Call to Action on Prescription Drug Costs
All Federation members and our allies are asked to contact their Senators and Representatives to demand action now to control and lower prescription drug prices for all Americans through passage of good Prescription Drug Importation Legislation that will also increase the safety of the prescription drug supply in this country. |
