    Senate blocks effort to lower Medicare costs
    Senators allied with the drug industry launched a filibuster to block the bill, and the April 18 vote of 55-42 fell short of the 60 votes needed under Senate rules to move to a full debate.
    No changes forseen for drug importation
    The Senate’s failure to clean up ambiguities surrounding prescription drug importation, though disappointing, changes nothing regarding the Senior Federation’s importation program.
    Prescription drug prices are up sharply in second year of Medicare Part D
    Drug prices charged by Part D plans for the most commonly prescribed brand-name medications have risen an average of 6.8 percent since December 2006.
