The Health Plan Information Center does community outreach and has a phone counseling center. The phone center is staffed by senior volunteers who answer telephone requests for health care information. Questions range from changes in Medicare coverage and Medicare Supplement plans to assisting low income seniors find medical services through the Senior Partners Care Program and other statewide health programs.
The Health Plan Information Center in the community and the counselors on the phones help seniors sort out the confusing array of health plan options and make informed choices. The senior volunteers are able to provide peer counseling to seniors who might otherwise refrain from asking questions about health plans.
The Center assists people with questions concerning health care in the following major areas: The new Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plans and other changes or additions to Medicare coverage. Medicare coverage and supplemental insurance choices. Information on low and modest income programs including Senior Partners Care, Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB), Service Limited Medicare Beneficiaries (SLMB), and Medical Assistance. Discount programs for dental, optometric, chiropractic, podiatric, and durable medical equipment. General long term care insurance information. Information on the rising cost of prescription drugs, and options available to seniors.
