Helping Minnesotans Get the Prescription Drugs They Need

With all the options available to save on prescription drugs, the decision and application processes can be overwhelming. The RxConnect™ service can help. RxConnect™ is a service of the Minnesota Board on Aging and Senior LinkAge Line™ designed to help Minnesotans find ways to save on prescription drugs.

The RxConnect™ initiative benefits citizens of all ages and incomes who need help with their prescription drug costs. It is a statewide service working in cooperation with several government agencies, including the regional Area Agencies on Aging and the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Trained RxConnect™ specialists can help sort through all the choices available to Minnesotans. Cost saving options include: Patient Assistance Programs through drug manufacturers, Medicare Part D, state-funded public programs, Canadian importation, and many other options. The toll-free call to RxConnect™, 800/333-2433, links to a trained specialist who uses computer software that has information on all the options available.

Patient Assistance Programs: There are more than 200 programs from drug manufacturers to get free or discounted medications for people who qualify based on their income. RxConnect™ helps with the application process and the patient’s doctor signs the forms. Medications are usually sent to the patient’s clinic to be picked up. Be aware that many of these programs will not be available to Medicare enrollees in 2006.

Medicare Part D: This is a new part of Medicare that includes a prescription drug benefit. It begins on January 1, 2006. Enrollment in Medicare Part D is voluntary. Get more details on Part D.

Even if people do not qualify for some of the options, they will receive sound advice on how to purchase and manage their medications.

To see if there may be options to help you with your prescriptions, please call the RxConnect™ at 1-800/ 333-2433.
