North Star says thanks to Balke for her service

How quickly the seasons change up here in the North Star Region. Last month I was commenting on the changing colors and now the peak season has past and much cooler weather is upon us. It’s still very beautiful and the crisp air refreshing to breathe in. Is that white stuff very far behind?

The convention has come and gone and with it the election of a new slate of officers. We extend to Lois Williams, State President of the Minnesota Senior Federation, our heartfelt congratulations and wishes for a very successful term of office. There were 17 North Star members in attendance at convention and very excited for Lois and proud to claim her as one of our own. The North Star Region offers her our total support as her first year begins.

We would be remiss if we did not thank Minerva Balke for her years of service on the State Board as Financial Secretary. Minerva’s dedication to the Senior Federation, both on the state and local level, is beyond comparison. I am forever amazed at her ability to comprehend and retain the information obtained at the many meetings she attends in person or by conference call. Thank you, Minerva, for a job well done.

The Wabana OWLS (Older, Wiser, Livelier Seniors) hosted our very successful October ‘Fun Meeting’. A bus brought 12 members from the range cities and many more were present from the Itasca County senior centers so there were well over 50 in attendance. Entertainment and door prizes followed a delicious Swiss steak luncheon. Balsam Seniors are slated to host the November meeting and there is talk that maybe we would secure another bus to transport members to this one. Let the office know your thoughts on taking a bus instead of driving. It’s one way to fight the high price of gas.

Very best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving, to you and yours, from the North Star Region.

Muriel Pehle, office manager
