At day break on June 28, the season’s first Rx Express bus trip will roll out of the Twin Cities for Winnipeg, Manitoba, to buy more affordable prescription drugs. The Minnesota Senior Federation estimates that people will save an average of 40 percent on medications. For many, this trip is necessary to be able to afford both medication and food. Why do people choose bus trips rather than the Internet or mail order programs? For some, it’s the “show-me” factor - they want see where their medication is coming from. For many it’s because their doctor won’t sign the forms necessary for mail order programs. Others simply can’t wait for the time it takes to mail medications. Whatever the reason, the program helps people save money. Thanks to the continued generosity of Sen. Mark Dayton, who donates his Senate salary to finance these trips to Winnipeg from various locations throughout the state, the only costs incurred by participants are for the prescriptions themselves and a refundable deposit. The trip includes a Canadian doctor’s visit, meals, transportation and a hotel stay. To participate, you’ll need your original prescriptions from your U.S. doctor.
