Through the Minnesota Senior Federation’s partnership with Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs program and the Minnesota Medical Association, information is available that will provide consumers and doctors clear, objective criteria for choosing prescription drugs. The information is provided by Consumer Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumers Reports, through its innovative Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs program. The free, public education project provides consumers with easy-to-understand information on side effects, safety, effectiveness and cost based on the best available scientific evidence, not drug industry hype. Consumer Reports has selected “Best Buys” in 13 categories of drugs that could save you thousands of dollars per year. Drug evaluations and “Best Buys” are available by calling the Senior Federation at 651/645-0261 or on the web at www.CRBestBuyDrugs.org. These reports are designed to help consumers have conversations with their providers and pharmacists about their specific situation and any alternatives that might be helpful. The Minnesota Senior Federation is collaborating with physicians, health plans and pharmacists to counter drug company marketing with easily understood Consumer Reports Best Buy Drug materials. The Federation is in the process of placing posters in medical clinic examining rooms and lobbies encouraging patients to talk to their doctor about the Consumers Reports Best Buy Drug program. The Federation is also launching a significant consumer education program designed for community groups of all ages. |
