Northwest busy raising funds for MnSF activities

MnSF-Northwest Region thanks everyone who bought or sold raffle tickets. Each of the eight MnSF regions order as many tickets they think they can sell. A top prize of $100 is awarded to the person with the most sales, the prize cost being shared by all regions. Every region will receive 70 percent of their respective sales, making this a fundraiser for all regions.

Another fundraiser for regions are Christmas ad sales to businesses for publication in a Senior News December insert.

Northwest Region's business ads extend from the Canadian boarder down to Norman County and from Baudette across to Bemidji. Cost of these ads is very reasonable compared to other sources. Northwest wants to give advertisers the best product we can so we make changes they request at no cost to them.

The 2007 Health Care Choices is avaliable free to our paid up members. (See page 1.) Last year’s edition was very useful in selecting the best insurance company. Membership is $12 for an individual or $24 per couple. Send in your membership dues today and you’ll receive your Senior News subscription by January 2007.

Northwest Region thanks the following for their generous donations:
  • Heritage Community Center, Thief River Falls - $150.
  • V.F.W., Warren - $100.
  • Thriven, Thief River Falls - $300 matching with ads sold for Christmas edition 2006.
  • Golden Pioneers, Thief River Falls.
  • United Way -Ê$800.
  • Donations to the raffle fundraiser and the bakeless bake sale.

North Star has record as sales for holiday issue

From North Star Region, a very happy Thanksgiving to all of you. At this time of year may you take time to appreciate your family and friends and the bountiful blessings that they provide.

It has been another very busy month in the office. The Christmas supplement is complete and in the process of being printed and assembled. We had a record year with ad sales and some very enthusiastic new sellers. I cannot express enough my heartfelt thanks to those who took time from their very busy schedules and went door-to-door to procure sales.

The statewide MnSF raffle is now complete and a big thank-you to all who bought and sold tickets. As of this writing, the convention is still a few days away so winners are not yet known. I do know that Carolyn Nelson sold 11 books of tickets and her name will be in the drawing for the most books sold from our region. Good job, everyone.

These articles are always due a week before our monthly meeting so I always feel like I am behind in my reporting to you. Fun Day at the Tourist Center in Hibbing on October 13 I’m sure will be a big success like it usually is. Our November 10th meeting will be in Babbitt and be hosted by the Babbitt Seniors. I’m still looking for host clubs for next year, especially for the January meeting. If your club is interested, call me at the office to schedule.

Buffalo Ridge delegates win big at convention

Delegates from all three Buffalo Ridge regions attended the MnSF state convention in Maple Grove Oct. 11. Delegates listened to political speakers, ate lunch, and had lively discussions. The afternoon included issues and resolution discussion led by Minnesota Valley’s very own Ed Holst. Thanks, Ed, for a job well done.

The three regions had record sales of state raffle tickets this year. One region in particular now holds the record, Midwest. Winners of the $50 incentive prizes are: Dale Brock (Southwest), Irene Henrich (Minnesota Valley) and Bernice Humann (Midwest). This area was also fortunate to have top winners in the state raffle drawing. Top winner of $1,000 went to a Midwest contributor and the $200 prize went to Ed Holst from Minnesota Valley.

Members are also busy working on the sale of Christmas ads for all three regions. Ads will be inserted into the December Minnesota Senior News. Remember to say a special thank you to all businesses that contributed to our annual fundraiser.

At regional meetings, members have been discussing transportation situations in the regions and our own Les Ristinen from Frazee gave the Midwest group an informative and educational presentation on our statewide property tax system. Members were asked to get their tax report from their county courthouse and bring it with them to the November meeting. Minnesota Valley and Southwest members, can you get your reports as well and bring them to your monthly meetings?

At the combined December meeting we will celebrate another successful year and remember the holidays. Following our meeting and lunch we will enjoy our annual Christmas party and gift exchange. Each member brings a $5 prize, marks it for a man or woman and we pick a gift accordingly. This is our way of ending the year with a smile and beginning another with hope and anticipation.
