By Linda Zelig MnSF Development Manager It can be difficult to map the future if you don’t remember where you’ve been. We’re in the midst of several conversations about the future of the Minnesota Senior Federation - some challenging, some plodding, all encouraging. While that whirl of excitement takes shape, I’d like to take some time to remember a few significant moments at the Minnesota Senior Federation in the past year. I remember when I stopped scurrying around at the state convention in October and sat down to listen to Dave Nimmer. I got a little verklempt. Was I the only one getting misty eyed? Thank you, Mr. Nimmer, for reminding me to find joy and humor in my own mishaps. I remember when one of our committee members sat in my office and told me why he had joined the Senior Federation. It was a deeply personal story of trauma, but the Federation had offered avenues of education and action that pulled him through a difficult time. Thank you, Don, for showing me how to face a crisis. I remember a phone call in early June - the voice on the other end said, “I saw the wish list in Senior News. I’d like to help.” Many other voices chimed in on this one and created a roar of response. That’s one huge thank you! I remember working with Federation volunteers who were making phone calls and urging their listeners to consider a year-end gift to this organization. Each one had a set script, but everyone found a better way to talk about this organization and make a personal ask that came from the heart. I’ve discovered that members are yoked to this organization in some wise and wonderful ways. Thank you for being here and for being who you are. It’s been a wonderful year of promise and results. The coming year is jam packed with challenges and possibilities. As you contemplate the year and the year to come, remember your moments and how you’ve been a gift to others. |
