Everyone is invited to join Senior Federation members for an informative series of meetings featuring perspectives on the pension debate. The first presentation, March 21, 12-1:30 p.m. (rescheduled from the snow day on March 2), is a brown bag lunch featuring Professor Louis Johnston speaking on the history of the pension system in relation to current pension issues. Johnston teaches economics at St. Benedict-St. Johns and is a frequent guest on Minnesota Public Radio’s Mid-Day and Sound Money programs. The second presentation, April 2, 4-5:30 p.m., will be by Michelle Evermore, aid to Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, and former aide to chairman of the House education and labor committee, George Miller. Evermore will speak about current pension-related legislative issues. The third of the series will be April 25, 2:30-4:30 p.m. and feature Curt Hutchins, president of the board of trustees to the Minnesota Teachers Retirement Association (TRA). Hutchins will speak on issues facing state retirement plans, particularly the TRA and potential changes to the Post Fund. All meetings are held at the Minnesota Senior Federation Office, 1885 University Ave., Suite 171, in St. Paul. |
