You may be rewarded for reporting Medicare fraud…
Most health care providers who work with Medicare are honest. A few are not. Medicare fraud happens when Medicare is billed for services you never got. Use these steps to fight fraud:
- DOCUMENT all the health care you receive
- ORGANIZE AND SAVE all of your Medicare and Health Care paperwork
- CHECK each statement for mistakes. If you see a charge that may be wrong, call your health care provider and ask about it. If you are not satisfied, CALL The Minnesota Senior LinkAge Line at 800/333-2433
- REPORT suspected fraud to The Medicare Fraud Hotline 1-800/447-8477. (Medicare will not use your name if you ask that it not be used.
Your call will be taken seriously. If a review of your complaint leads to the recovery of at least $100 from a provider, you may be eligible for a reward.
The information must not be related to a fraud investigation already underway and you must not be related to an employee of certain Federal agencies. If you are eligible for a reward, you’ll receive a letter after all Medicare funds are recovered, which may take a long time for the investigation. The amount of the reward will not be more than 10 percent of the funds recovered, or $1,000, whichever is less
