Minnesota Senior Federation-Metro Region’s Northwest Chapter will host a transportation forum Oct. 19, 9:30 a.m. at Maple Grove Community Center. “This forum is designed to highlight a range of issues affecting seniors across the state as well as here locally,” said Federation transportation chair, Steven Sansnow. Likely issues to be tackled during the 90-minute forum include stability of funding for home- and community-based door-to-door transit, how building of a new I-35W bridge will affect funding for other transportation needs, insurance issues of volunteer drivers using their own vehicles, and influence of state, county and city on approval of comprehensive programs of transportation development. Invited forum participants include :MnDot Commissioner Carol Molnau; Senate transportation committee chair, Steve Murphy; House transportation committee chair, Bernie Leader; former transportation committee chair, Ron Erhart; Assistant Majority Leader Melissa Hortman; Hennepin County Commissioner Mike Opats; Rep. Frank Honrstein; and Brian Lamb from Metro Transit. The forum is open to the public and will include an informational expo. Exhibitors will include Transit for Livable Communities Sierra Club, Metro Transit, Prism, Committee for Urban Stability, Minnesota Senior Federation, Isaiah, AAA, and Minnesota Transportation Alliance. |
