Heartland to cast vote for MnSF reorganization Heartland Region held a special meeting Sept. 10 to authorize delegates to the state convention to vote officially on reorganization. All members were notified by first-class mail. The delegate assembly held in St. Cloud Aug. 28 was attended by Eileen Iverson and Iva Zanker. Much of the discussion was centered on the financial situation of MnSF - where we are and where we should be. Reorganization was also a hot topic. My personal feeling is that Heartland should vote to dissolve its legal entity and vote for the reorganization. I don’t see how we could survive independently. As far as the Oct. 10 annual convention goes, four applications for the Board of Directors have been received by the nominations committee; the revised bylaws were reviewed; the standing resolutions were adopted; and the regional issue resolutions were adopted, subject to additions and editing. See you at the convention! Iva Zanker, president Parantala and O’Brien honored at county fair Tom Wagner and I like to keep you guessing as to who will write the article for the month. As time gets away from us all, you have me this month to keep you updated with the happenings of the North Star Region. I know many parts of the state have received lots of rain and as a result, flooding, but we remain dry up here in the northland. So many of the trees have already changed color and lost their leaves. Some are so stressed they are just losing their leaves. The seasons, like the Federation, seem to also be undergoing change. North Star Region was very excited when Everal O’Brien was nominated and won the women’s award for Outstanding Senior Citizen for Northern St. Louis County, and Emil Parantala of Floodwood was the winner for the men. Emil is president of the Floodwood Area Senior Center. These awards were presented at the St. Louis County Fair and made them eligible to compete at the Minnesota State Fair for the title of Minnesota’s Outstanding Senior. Check out the other article on Everal on the preceding page. Raffle tickets have been for sale for more than a month now, but our results will not be known until later in the year. All of the ticket stubs and money are being sent to the state office and distribution will take place after the October convention. Our supplement ad sellers are also out checking with businesses, senior clubs and individuals. This fundraiser is a substantial part of the budget so let’s hope for another successful year. You will see the results when you receive your December Minnesota Senior News at the end of November. Our Oct. 12 monthly meeting will take place at the Hibbing Tourist Center. This is “Fun Day” so that means there is not much business to take place. After a short meeting, there is usually entertainment and door prizes. Senior clubs are asked to donate a door prize of at least $10 in value for this popular time. And, of course, “Coffee An’” always closes out the day. Lois Williams is healing nicely from her shattered shoulder and was happy to learn she would not have to have surgery to help the process along. Having taken it easy for the past couple of months, she is feeling much better. Tom Wagner’s captivity has also ended and his foot is finally healing from his lack of activity. It was great seeing Joe Scholar at our meeting in August. LeRoy Hautala and his wife Carol have moved out to their farm and he also is doing better. Some good news does seem to abound this month.
