Property taxes

Regards to Marlowe Hamerston’s column about property taxes: I have been e-mailing my senator and representative that something needs to be done for seniors. Yes, we get a rebate for the second half, but the first half is four times higher than the whole year used to be and is depleting much of the seniors’ savings just to pay the first half.

Now Rep. Ron Erhardt (R) and Rep. Melissa Hortman (DFL) are proposing a sales tax on clothing. I mailed them and asked what is next - food, so the seniors can starve to death and they won’t have to worry about them any more. Sen. Ann Rest (DFL) is also sponsoring a bill to put a sales tax on clothing.

They are trying to hide it in an “omnibus tax bill.”

This information was gathered from the publication Session Weekly, Vol. 25 Number 3, Feb. 29, 2008.

Hillary Clinton

Sen. Hillary Clinton should be president of the United States because she is highly intelligent, extremely qualified and a very caring woman. Clinton fights for the poor, disabled, senior citizens and our veterans. I know Clinton will be a great president because she cares about people. She is especially concerned about people like me who are poor and very disabled. Clinton gets along well with people in the United States and in other countries. She has excellent people skills, is well liked and respected, and she is an excellent communicator. Clinton’s knowledge and experience over the years will make her a fantastic president. This country desperately needs her expertise and leadership!
