Open house planned for volunteers PDF Print E-mail

All volunteers of the Minnesota Senior Federation are invited to attend an open house at the MnSF St. Paul office, 1885 University Ave. W., St. Paul, Wednesday, April 30, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.   

The featured event will be an open forum discussion (10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.) with Board of Director’s chair, Barbara Kaufman, and Lee Johnson, MnSF executive director. They will give introductions and an update on re-organization of the Federation and discuss what they see for the future of the organization. MnSF staff members will be available to discuss programs and issue work of the Federation.

Enjoy coffee and treats, register for door prizes, take a tour of the office and meet staff and fellow MnSF members. It is our way of saying “thank you” to the workforce of volunteers who donate their time and talents to the organization. RSVP to Lynn Moseng, 651/783-5018 or . Bring a friend with you; it is a great way of introducing others to the organization. Additional parking is available in the Goodwill parking lot. Please park towards University Avenue. 

Following is a partial list of volunteer opportunities at the Federation. 

Health Plan Information counselors - Counsel MnSF members and non-members regarding Medicare Parts A, B and D, supplemental health plans, eligibility requirements for Senior Partners Care, etc.
(click here for related article). This is a weekly commitment and mentoring is provided.

Medicare Part D enrollment needs - Additional help is needed in the Health Plan Information Center during the Medicare Part D enrollment period, Nov. 1-Dec. 31. Training and mentoring will be provided prior to enrollment dates. Consider volunteering for this important yet sometimes difficult program for seniors to navigate by themselves. Volunteer opportunities include clerical, one-to-one counseling and phone counseling.

Senior Partners Care enrollment assistant - Work with the SPC administrator in processing and reviewing SPC applications and supporting documents. This is a weekly commitment. Training is provided.

Phone bank volunteers - Be part of a team network that will make telephone calls on behalf of the Federation to members and friends of the Federation. Examples would be welcoming new members, thanking people who have made donations, alerting members to an event or special legislation that is being considered, etc. Schedule is flexible and training will be provided

Reception desk volunteer - If you like customer service, greeting visitors, answering phones and processing mail - this is the position for you! Training and a full- or half-day schedules are available.

Mailing volunteers - Consider joining the mailing teams that do the mailings for the Federation on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday mornings of the month or volunteer to help with occasional larger mailings.

Speakers Bureau - Volunteer to represent MnSF by giving presentations on the programs and work of the Federation. Training is provided and schedule is flexible.
