“The Minnesota Senior Federation State Convention and Annual Meeting are beginning to take shape,” observed Jerry Irsfeld, chair of the state convention committee. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Seniority...35 years of making a difference.” This being the 35th anniversary of the Minnesota Senior Federation and the first convention of the newly consolidated Federation gives special meaning to the event. Scheduled for Monday, Oct. 20, at Earl Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, the convention will start at 8 a.m. with registration, coffee and snacks and end approximately at 4:00 in the afternoon. Sponsors and information booths will be set up throughout the center. For those coming from the Greater Minnesota area, a limited number of rooms have been reserved at the AmericInn near the Earl Brown Center. Featured this year during the morning session will be an “Elder Statesmen Roundtable” of former Minnesota governors discussing senior issues of concern. Breakout sessions will feature information on women’s retirement, voter registration, a health care panel, open enrollment in Medicare as well as a new member and affiliate workshop among others. Cost to members is only $29 for the entire day including lunch and snacks, and $15 without lunch and snacks. Although the featured speaker at lunch has not been named, we can tell you that it will be someone very special that you will not want to miss. Lunch will feature grilled breast of chicken with fresh tomato salsa, parsley buttered potatoes and roasted root vegetables, fresh-baked rolls and for dessert, apple cobbler with oatmeal cinnamon streusel. A vegetarian lunch will feature a vegetable caponata crustade with vegetable demi-glaze. During the annual meeting, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., issues will be presented, discussed and statewide resolutions will be voted on. In addition, the statewide board will be nominated and inducted. If you would like to nominate someone for the board, fill out and send in the application on page 5. This is the convention and annual meeting you do not want to miss. Be sure to register early using the form in this publication and encourage your friends and family to also attend.
